Egg Hunt

Before Spring Break we had an egg hunt. First, we decorated a bag to put our eggs in. Then, we went to the upper apparatus area to hunt for eggs. It was easy to find most of the eggs but, some were hidden pretty well. Thank you to the parents who helped hide the eggs. After the hunt we went to the Parent Center to have some ice cream prepared by Mrs. Garcia. She baked some crust, put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center, and a small scoop of orange sherbert on the very top. It looked like a broken egg! It was yummy! We also had fruit punch. Thanks Mrs. Garcia! After eating, we divided our findings so that everyone had about the same amount. We also made a rabbit made out of foam. Thanks Miss Tamrazian for showing us how it's done. We had a lot of fun!

Music Class

We have been learning about different types of instruments and the family which they belong. The different families are the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion. We watched a video of Peter and the Wolf. The characters didn't talk, instead, they were represented by a different instrument sound. At first, it was challenging to listen to and remember the different types of instruments that represented the characters. After a while, we began to remember and figure out which instrument was being played.

She received a cool Dr. Seuss' t-shirt, a certificate, a pencil and a bookmark. We all got a paper Cat in the Hat hat. We got to write our name, in a silly way, on the front of the hat. We had a guest reader come to our classroom to read a Dr. Seuss' book. She read a story titled Gertrude McFuzz. She was one of Delevan's former teachers. She taught for LAUSD for 35 years!

Delevan Drive's First Father-Daughter Dance

On Friday, February 11, 2011, was our first, Father-Daughter Dance. Although the title says Father-Daughter, this dance was not just for our young ladies and their father. Our students were able to and did bring, their Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Older Brother and any male figure that has had a possitive impact on their lives. Some of my students came with their father and had a great time dancing and bonding. Thank you to all of our possitive male role models, you leave such a great legacy when you take the time to be with kids!

Sweet Project

We made marshmallow lollipops today! First, we wrote our name on the label that was on our lollipop bag. Second, we moistened one end of our jumbo marshmallows by dipping it on a wet paper towel. Third, we dipped our marshmallows in some sprinkles. After we dipped all of our marshmallows, we "glued" them together. We put marshmallow spread on their sides so that they stick to each other. Last, we put a lollipop stick through some of the marshmallows so that we have a handle. Our teacher and Room Moms helped us put it all in a clear bag and tied it up. We had a lot of fun! Thank you Mrs. Tse and Mrs. Hamet for doing a sweet project with us!

Starlab at Delevan

Our teacher borrowed the Starlab from LAUSD's Division of Science. Our PTA Treasurer helped her set it up, thank you Mr. Hamet.
Once the Starlab was set up, we crawled inside. It was dark inside but our teacher had a flashlight to guide us to our seat. Inside was a projector. It projected the stars and the different phases of the moon. The projector also projected the constellations that zodiac symbols are named after.
We will try to learn the stories behind each zodiac symbol. We can share these stories in third grade, when we get to the theme Telling Stories.
