Student of the Week for the Week of February 11, 2013

Congratulations to our Student of the Week.  He plays safely in and out of the classroom.  He is respectful and responsible.  He tried his best to focus and stay on task last week.  He was responsible and finished his work in his Practice Book.  This was not an easy task for him.  He keep trying to do what was asked of him.  Keep up the very hard work!

January Accelerated Reader Top Readers

Congratulations to our top three Accelerated Readers for the month of January.  Our first place reader accumulated 13.1 points, our second place accumulated 8.8 points, and our third reader accumulated 6.2 points!  Keep up the hard work!

Congratulations to our January Student of the Month!  She is safe, respectful, and responsible.  She comes to school everyday, on time, and is ready to learn.  She looks, listens, and pays attention.  She always knows what to do and always knows what is going on in class.  She is a 21st Century learner.  She exhibits the four C's of a 21st Century learner; she communicates, collaborates, critically thinks, and is creative.  She uses Google Docs to write and communicate with her teacher.  She goes on line to take her tests and assignments and scores well in her assessments.  Keep up the awesome work!

Santa Cecilia Orchestra

Mr. Roper, from the Santa Cecilia Orchestra, shared his knowledge of the tuba with us today.  He brought his 16 feet, 30 year old tuba with him.  He also brought a 9 feet tuba and he has a 170 year old tuba at home.  Tubas have been around for 180 years.  He showed and talked about shells, horns, and bones being used as musical instruments.  He played a composed piece for us titled Effie and Effie sings a Lullaby.  He invited us to see a free concert at Occidental College.  If we come an hour early, we can try playing some instruments that they'll have out on display.
